Pan and Zoom is the easiest way to create photo animations in the style made popular by acclaimed film director Ken Burns. Multiple plugins are included, each designed to help you create the best animations.

Pan and Zoom supports external image files or existing media on your timeline, including video clips. Take advantage of its blazing fast performance when animating extremely large photos with wide gamut color accuracy, or apply to existing clips on the timeline to maintain your current edits.

When animating external image files, the best results are obtained by using the Generator variant of Pan and Zoom. Click the Titles and Generators icon to open the corresponding browser. Reveal the contents of the Generators group to browse all video generators available in Final Cut Pro. Select the Pan and Zoom category and drag the effect to your timeline:. To create an animation from existing mixed content on your timeline, click the Titles and Generators icon to open the corresponding browser.

This is the main downside of using the Pan and Zoom generator since it requires users to add the file to the library manually, or to make sure the file is available when the project is archived or recovered from a backup.

The Pan and Zoom title can be dragged above any any clips on your timeline to animate them. This is an extremely convenient way to create a Pan and Zoom effect from existing edited content, but the output quality is limited by the resolution at which the underlying media is being rendered by Final Cut Pro.

This may depend on the timeline settings and on the type of clips that sit below the title track. The Pan and Zoom effect can be applied over any clip on your timeline.

Thus used, the Pan and Zoom plug-in is a simple alternative to animating the parameters offered by Final Cut Pro under the Transform group via keyframes. So what we’ll do is, go back one. Holding “Shift’ maybe just to make sure you’re on the right keyframe, and just going to go a little bit. One of the quirks you might have noticed is that, watch, that doesn’t start moving until the actual change.

There’s an easy way to fix it. Basically what’s happening is that, we’re saying Cross Dissolve so what it is, is it’s grabbing a bit of the car, and throwing it over this side, a bit of that car, and throwing it over the other side, but what I’ve said with my keyframes is, if I use my up and down arrow, on this gap here, for Car 3 this is where the animation starts, and without the Cross Dissolve, watch this.

That’s the full on beginning of this animation, but because I have that Cross Dissolve, and it leaps across, can you see there’s actually this gap here, and that’s the gap we’re going to fill by just going, you, just dragging it to the front. You can kind of just drag it up to the inner bangs there, can’t go any further.

So you can just keep going further, further, further, and it will just stop there. Now in here you’ll notice that it starts moving, on this side of the transition as well. So we probably need to do it for these other ones.

After a few weeks, however, things began to change. The app refused to load after opening it. I tried updating, worked fine for a few days. Then the same problem popped up again.

This time I tried deleting and redownloading the app, which solved the problems for about a week and a half. It really is a bummer since when the app DOES work, it works well. It just is so unreliable, I end up having to use iMovies, which really pales in comparison performance-wise but at least it actually works!
